2008 Porsche Cayenne GTS meets North America

Following breakfast here at the 2008 Chicago Auto Show, Porsche took the cover off its new Cayenne GTS for the first time on our shores. After emphasizing how well the updated 2007 Cayenne has done in the market, the Stuttgart-based automaker talked about running the 2007 TransSyberia Rallye with what is essentially a stock Cayenne S. In the hands of rally veteran Rod Millen, the Cayenne with added safety equipment and spare parts finished first overall in its first attempt at the 4,000 mile race.

2008 Porsche Cayenne GTS 2008 Porsche Cayenne GTS -2Porsche NA marketing VP David Pryor proclaimed the GTS, however, as the best handling SUV in the world thanks to its 21-inch wheels, 20mm lower ride height and Porsche Active Suspension Management. Its 4.8L V8 has direct fuel injection to help it put out a stout 405 hp, and it's mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. If you're up for it, the 405-hp GTS model goes on sale now in the U.S. with a base price of $69,300.

Faralli and Mazzati Antas V8 GT

Ever hear of the Faralli and Mazzati Antas V8 GT? Few have, but many will see it soon, as the unique coachbuilt sportscar is set to make its cinematic debut in the highly-anticipated Speed Racer movie.

Faralli and Mazzati Antas V8 GTFaralli and Mazzati Antas V8 GT-2The handcrafted Antas V8 GT is the creation of classic car restorers Walter Faralli and Luca Mazzanti, who designed the car by hand with retro touches culled from vintage Maseratis, Morgans and Bugattis. The Antas made its big debut in the presence of Prince Albert II at the 2006 Top Marques show in Monaco, and is powered by a 310hp 4.7-liter Maserati V8. Although we don't yet know in what capacity exactly, the F and M Antas V8 GT will star alongside such names as Susan Sarandon, John Goodman and Christina Ricci (the latter of which will have to compete with the Antas for curve factor) when Speed Racer hits the big screen on May 9, 2008.

2008 Porsche GT3 Cup S

Endurance racing fans have a new Porsche to look for on the circuit this year. The automaker has unveiled the GT3 Cup S racing car, which can be used in FIA GT3 events. It combines a more powerful version of the 3.6L engine used in the Porsche Mobil1 Supercup and the Carrera Cup series cars thanks to changes to the exhaust and engine management systems. The GT3 Cup S makes 440 horses and 430 lb-ft of torque.

2008 Porsche GT3 Cup S2008 Porsche GT3 Cup S-22008 Porsche GT3 Cup S-3The intimidating bodywork is based on the GT2-class GT3 RSR instead of the more production-looking Supercup/Carrera Cup cars, and the GT3 Cup S also sports upgraded suspension components and bigger brakes. Cost of entry is steep -- €250,000 plus VAT -- but no one ever said racing was for the faint-of-heart (or wallet). Owners of '07 GT3 Cup cars can have their cars upgraded to Cup S spec for a price as well. While it's not as slinky-sexy as the new Jaguar XKR GT3 car, the Porsche should be seen in heavy numbers and on many podiums during the coming season.

2009 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT and Eclipse Spyder

Mitsubishi has seen fit to bestow upon us a whole slew of new high-res images showing the updated 2009 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT and Eclipse Spyder doing their groove thing on the road. As we mentioned last week when we previewed the vehicle, the styling changes are evolutionary and include a new front end housing a blacked-out trapezoidal grille that mimics the maw of the Lancer Evolution, as well as a blacked out rear apron where a new dual exhaust system peeks out that provides the car's V6 with another 2 horsepower and 2 ft-lbs. of torque for a grand total of 265 and 262, respectively.

2009 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT 2009 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT -22009 Mitsubishi Eclipse SpyderWe actually dig the new grille and think it works well with the already established body style of the Eclipse, and more power is more power (i.e. a good thing). But it's tough to overlook the fundamental flaws of the Eclipse, which include being a heavy front-wheel-drive coupe that shares a lineage with a certain much-missed all-wheel-drive, turbo-four pocket rocket.
